A Notary Public is a public official who is authorized by the state to witness the signing of important documents.
A Notary Signing Agent (NSA) is a Notary Public who is specially trained to handle and notarize loan documents.
To become an NSA, you must be a commissioned Notary Public and take additional steps to satisfy the compliance requirements of lenders, title companies, and signing services such as:
Pass an annual background screening to guard borrowers' private financial information.
Complete an NSA Certification training and receive a passing score on the exam.
A Notary Signing Agent is hired as an independent contractor to ensure that real estate loan documents are executed by the borrower, notarized, and returned for processing. This critical part of the loan process enables the loan to be funded.
